Exam Proctoring

Mizzou Academy is committed to providing fair and meaningful assessments that reflect student learning and mastery of essential course concepts and skills. Most grade 8-12 courses require proctored exams to promote a consistent and equitable testing environment. During these proctored exams, an impartial proctor supervises the testing process, helping to ensure academic integrity and a reliable assessment experience for all students.  Note: Courses for students in grades K-7 do not have proctored exams.

Proctoring FAQs

When should I request a proctor?
You may request a proctoring session once your exam is unlocked in Canvas, usually after completing all preceding modules. Proctoring sessions cannot be scheduled for unlocked exams (except for Advanced Placement exams).

Who may proctor my exam?

You are responsible for selecting and requesting a proctor for each proctored exam. You may use Mizzou Academy Proctoring Services or an external proctor approved by Mizzou Academy. Mizzou Academy does not require the same proctor for every exam.

How long does the proctoring approval process take?

Once you submit a request, Mizzou Academy’s Proctoring Coordinator reviews and processes requests in the order they are received and will respond within one to two business days.

Note: If you request an external proctor for the first time, allow 7-10 business days for processing. New proctors require verification before receiving exam passwords; this ensures that all proctors meet Mizzou Academy’s standards for maintaining exam integrity.

What technical requirements are needed for taking an exam?

Only computers (PCs, Macs, Chromebooks) are permitted during Mizzou Academy proctored exams.

Access to mobile devices and tablets is strictly prohibited during the exam. They are not allowed to be used on exams under any circumstances.

You are responsible for ensuring that your chosen computer can access the Zoom URL required for the exam. Before the session begins, you must resolve any issues related to firewalls or security settings that could prevent using the camera, screen sharing, or remote control features for proctoring.

What materials are allowed during a proctored exam? Our exams all allow a personal whiteboard/dry-erase board and a marker for notes. (See example here.) After completing your exam, you will need to wipe your board clean in front of the proctor. Scrap paper and calculators are allowed only on exams that state these materials are permissible.
